  • 1/2 Teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 Teaspoon allspice
  • 1 Cup raisins
  • 1/2 Cup nuts
  • 2 Teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 Cup boiling water
  • 6 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions
  1. Cream shortening
  2. Add sugar
  3. Blend eggs, applesauce
  4. Sift flour, salt and spices
  5. Dissolve soda in boiling water
  6. Add alternately with flour.
  7. Bake 350 for 50 minutes
  8. Make frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add sugar and vanilla extract and mix until blended. Spread frosting on cooled cake
