stick butter

beaten egg whites

Instructions
1 stick of butter (softened) Cream well.
Add ¾ cup sugar slowly and cream together.
Add 3 eggs and beat well.
Sift flour – measure 2 cups cake flour. Add 3 Tablespoons baking powder, 1/8 teaspoon salt and sift three times.
Add slowly to butter and sugar – a little flour first and last – alternately with 1 cup milk. Add vanilla, beat well.
Pour into 8” layer pans and bake 20 minutes
Icing
2 cup sugar
2 cup water
Stir well – boil until spins thread
add slowly to 2 beaten egg whites beating continually
Add vanilla
